When I got started in listing romances written by authors living in the Caribbean, be it set in the Caribbean or set outside of the region, I thought it would be an easy undertaking.
Boy was I wrong.
So, I've learned to depend on sources to create the monthly lists. This could look like being on their email list or following their social media.
All the same, they make it easy to find and share the types of books I love to read, written by people who live just down the road, so to speak.
My sources include
Tropical Literature Creative
Not only do I follow Tropical Literature Creatives on Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube, I've done an interview and my books have been featured a few times.
Kevin George out of Trinidad is doing the Lord's work in consistently showcasing Caribbean books of all genres. And if you are looking for a diverse collection of Caribbean books, check out Tropical Literature Creative in your favourite social media app:
Caribbean Authors
Caribbean Authors’ weekly emails range from showcasing books to helpful tips to author interviews to book reviews.
Founded by Marsha Mckie of Trinidad, it falls under the umbrella of Caribbean Books Fondation which has the "mandate is to connect the Caribbean Community and its diaspora through Literature."
Another way to keep up to date with them is through their social media:
Amazon
More like Amazon's search which I would type in “(island name) romance”. Unfortunately, there are only so many results.
Still, it is one of the world's largest marketplaces and it is helpful in consolidating the information I need about the books such as:
cover art
book description which helps identify the tropes
title
author name and their other books
Other sources include
Instagram - More from casual scrolling and being pleasantly surprised;
Tiktok - Sometimes through the FYP but mainly because I follow Tropical Literature Creatives.
So, how about you? How do you find out about books by Caribbean authors?
Of course, there are the books published by traditional publishers who have the marketing dollars and reach to promote books, but what of the indie Caribbean authors? How do you find them?
It funny that you answered this question cause I really wanted to know how you were able to find all these Caribbean authors.
