It actually started with a happily ever after, more like a search for it.
As an indie romance author, I’m constantly looking for ways to promote my books through Instagram. Then one day, I decided to share books and stories of other authors from the region. At first, it was easy as I knew of a few through social media, but after a handful of posts, I had to really go digging.
It soon became apparent why the same set of books made an appearance when Read Caribbean month (June) came around.
Although the internet is ever-growing, most of the growth comes from the larger countries, and there is only so much from and about the Caribbean. Thankfully, there are a few individuals who have made finding new books easy such as Tropical Literature Creatives and Caribbean Authors, but what of genre fiction like romance?
In a way, Bookish in the Caribbean is my way of cataloging these types of books.
Bookish in the Caribbean is a journal that celebrates books set in the Caribbean written by authors from the Caribbean. In the mix will be posts featuring books, interviews with and features on Caribbean authors, and every now and then, there will be my random thoughts as an Antiguan self-publishing author.
This is also the home of a Caribbean genre fiction catalog. Not only will I be showing the books here, but I am also creating a catalog using Canva. I’m starting off with Romance and as I find more genre books I will adjust the catalog.
Yes, traditional Caribbean fiction is important but in creating the Bookish in the Caribbean IG posts showcasing Caribbean romance, I see that these are the books readers want to read. We want to read the kind of books we can escape into instead of the kind of books that remind us of our traumas.
Bookish in the Caribbean is not meant to replace existing websites that celebrate Caribbean Fiction, it’s meant to join them and go deep into popular fiction. If you are here for my personal work as a romance author, feel free to sign up to my newsletter here. Otherwise, welcome to Bookish in the Caribbean
